Cookie Policy
Last reviewed: 25 April 2026
This page describes the cookies and similar storage technologies used on Khamsa.org. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your browser. Cookies allow the site, or services embedded on the site, to recognise your browser across pages and visits. Similar technologies include localStorage, sessionStorage, pixel tags, and device identifiers used by mobile browsers and apps. In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these.
Why we use cookies
Khamsa.org uses cookies for two main purposes:
- Measurement: understanding how readers find and use the site, so that the content can be improved.
- Advertising: displaying ads through Google AdSense and partner ad networks, including ads that may be tailored to your inferred interests, and measuring the performance of those ads.
We do not use cookies to log you in, because the site does not have user accounts.
Categories of cookies in use
Strictly necessary
Cookies needed to deliver the site and to keep it secure. These include cookies set by the hosting provider for load balancing and protection against abuse. They are not used for analytics or advertising.
Analytics
Set by Google Analytics (gtag.js) to measure traffic and usage. Typical cookies in this category include _ga and _ga_<ID>. They store a pseudonymous identifier and information about how you use the site.
Advertising
Set by Google AdSense and its partners to deliver and measure ads, including ads that may be tailored to your interests. Cookies set by Google in this category typically include those associated with the doubleclick.net domain, as well as identifiers that help Google measure conversions and frequency. Additional cookies may be set by other ad networks and demand-side platforms participating in the same auctions.
Embedded fonts
Loading fonts from Google Fonts may cause Google to receive your IP address and user-agent. Google Fonts does not set tracking cookies in the strict sense, but the request itself is logged by Google.
How to control cookies
You have several options for controlling cookies:
1. Browser settings
All major browsers let you block, delete, and manage cookies. The exact instructions differ between browsers; the help section of your browser explains how. Blocking all cookies may affect the operation of some websites, although Khamsa.org itself remains readable.
2. Google Ad Settings
You can control how Google personalises ads at adssettings.google.com. From that page you can turn off ad personalisation across the websites you visit, including Khamsa.org.
3. Industry opt-out tools
For broader opt-outs from interest-based advertising:
- European Union: youronlinechoices.eu
- United States: aboutads.info/choices and networkadvertising.org/choices
- Canada: youradchoices.ca
4. Google Analytics opt-out
Google offers a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics from using your data: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is no consistent industry standard for "Do Not Track" signals. Khamsa.org does not change its behaviour based on the DNT header. Where Global Privacy Control signals are recognised by ad networks (for example, in some US states), those networks process the signal directly.
Changes to this policy
Cookies and ad networks change as services evolve. This page is reviewed regularly and updated when material changes occur. The "Last reviewed" date above indicates the most recent revision.
